A Must Read

Even though I've been away for a while, I've still been trying to keep up with my reading (if not my "commenting"). Bob, over at vanguardchurch.blogspot.com continues to write important, provocative and encouraging pieces covering various topics (his posts on Glenn Beck are particularly interesting). I think everyone would be well-served by reading and meditating on his material, especially his theological-specific material on redemption. Bob truly understands the cosmic scope of redemption--for this creation--and the thorough-going transformation that has come in Christ by the Spirit for all of His people. As I've stated before, use the search box and type in shalom for some excellent reading.

His latest post is a continuation of a series of posts commenting on the published articles in Comment Magazine on the Biblical story of Creation-Fall-Redemption. I recommend reading all of Bob's posts on in this series as well as the articles themselves. We need to have a more biblical understanding of the Person and Work of Christ and I think Bob's contribution serves the Body well. I don't think he goes as far as the Torrance's with regard to the scope of the Atonement, but I won't hold that against him! :-)

Check it out!

Coming soon--GGM's thoughts on "faith".

Addition: I just discovered Bob's other site which is devoted to the "neo-calvinist" tradition associated with Abraham Kuyper. This looks to be a rich resource for understanding the implications of Creation-Fall-Redemption-Consummation as set forth in the biblical storyline. I look forward to much blessed reading over there!

Cool preview like 70s and 80s television for next week.

Now if only I could figure out how to upload some cheesy 70's music as my "theme" song. :-)

Any ideas?

I have my audio posts in main body. Most music and comedy clips have gone in comments.

I have downloaded clips from CD and YouTube and others on the web.

I have used software I purchased years ago, GoldWave and Wave Editor, to make clips. I have only posted full tracks from websites and usually in video form.

I converted wav or edited CD files to MP3 with software downloaded for free off web.

I have used my internet service provider for audio hosting for awhile (Shaw) but soon that filled up to capacity. So, I went to filefreak.com which works but tends to delete older files. So, older archived posts will often be missing audio.

Many bloggers use a player with a selection of songs. Larry (Nite) for example.

Personally, I think an automatic continuous music option is a negative as some readers will be annoyed by whatever type of music is played.

But, a short clip arriving at your site could be cool.

Yes, he reads familiar.;)

"Yes, he reads familiar.";)

You noticed!?

Yes, Bob and I tend to have substantial agreement on this matter. But since he communicates so much more clearly than I do, I wanted to people to read the "real thing"! :-)

I agree about continuous music. I used to have a "player" on the sidebar, but the site I was using pulled my stuff because it was copywrited. And because I'm not at all "computer savvy", I don't know all the ways I can accomplish the integration of music/audio that may enhance (or distract from, I suppose) various posts and whatnot.

Oh well, since I don't seem to writing as much as I used to I shouldn't be too concerned about the fancy stuff. I'll concentrate on writing for the time being.

Thanks Russ.

I found the lecture, course work, commuting stage of my academic career took up about 50-60 hours a week and so at that point blogging would have been out for me. I just did not have the time and energy.

Plus I worked in the summer, telemarketing, labouring and later security and census. I also did some work at church.

Although theses writing is more technical than course work, I took my advisor's advice and did 5-6 hours a day on it and spent other time reflecting on the work. I would actually have ideas while in bed, for example. Too much writing time on a thesis can lead to mental fatigue and mistakes. So, I spent 30-40 hours a week on it. Yes, actually less time than on the course work. I spent another 20-30 hours a week with blogging for teaching experience with my CV.

Blessings with your studies, GGM. If you don't have time to blog, maybe you can occasionally help out some of your links, or maybe not.:)

You can see where social life became a bit of a problem even for someone as sweet and marvelous as me.;)

Hey Russ,

Thanks for the encouragement. I have a break before the next sememster (late August) and I've been working on a post for the past few weeks. It was going to be a just a simple post on faith, but it has grown to be a huge monster that I can no longer control! :-)

I hope to have enough of it done this weekend to post it in stages. Of course, between continuing to "fix" my sprinkler system and trying to read ahead for my fall classes, I'm not overly confident that this will happen.

Oh well, I'll keep plugging away.

I hope to be a little more regular with my "comments" on other blogs (yours, of course!) as I figure out the best schedule for my daily studies/activities...and my job, of course!

Stay tuned....
